Are Sky High Salaries Insured

Do owners have an insurance policy on these high salary players? Or if a player gets hurt do they just write it off?

Not sure that you could insure anything short of a career ending injury. What happens when the .310 hitter becomes the .265 hitter? You probably have to eat the loss.

i think most have injury provisions. I know that John Lackeys big contract had a provision that if he went down with an arm injury, the Sox would only be on the hook for somewhere around 500k and it automatically added an additional year on the end for the original value.

I also think many teams carry policies on contracts.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

You don't play.....you don't get paid! That would be my rule. ;)

Yes, most salaries are insured for at least the majority of the contract if a player is on the DL. 75% of David Wright's salary was paid by insurance while he was on the DL due to spinal issues.
