How to Pack Coins for Shipping

Greetings All,

I am selling a few coin sets and am wondering the best method of packaging for shipping. I am including new albums/folders, but I do expect some coins might be dislodged during the trip to the new owner. I do have nice tubes which I could secure the coins in, and send the empty albums with... as a buyer, which would you rather receive: filled albums or tubes with un-used albums? These do include proofs, which again I could place in the albums or include in separate holders. Thoughts please...

Thanks in advance!
Dave

It depends. If I bought an album from eBay that is filled or partially filled, I'd prefer it left intact. If the album is empty already, I would prefer it is left empty.

Any time I get albums with coins in them they are usually just in a padded Priority Flat Rate envelope. The coins do occasionally slide into the album. I think sending them in the album is better for the coins than removing them from the album, putting them in tubes and having the new owner place them back in the album. The less they are handled the better. You could contact the new owner and ask what they prefer.

The more you handle the coins the greater chance that something will get damaged. They'll generally travel OK in an album as long as it can't flop open. I've purchased many albums with coins in them and can't recall any where coins ended up rolling around loose in the box. Cover the album with paper and tape tightly around it and I think it would be OK. A good sturdy box with plenty of packing peanuts or bubblewrap is a given.
