Say Hey Willie
Yaz. I even batted like him.
When I was 13 I made my confirmation. When it was my turn to go up to the alter and see the arch bishop he asked me what Saints name I was taking. I said Carl. He said there was no Saint Carl. I said there was one in Boston. We compromised on Charles

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
More than George Brett, Frank White, or Dan Quisenberry, I wanted to be Willie Mays...Aikens. He'd just had a 4 homer World Series, wore the eye black and wristbands and batting gloves, had the cool looking first baseman's mitt, batted left handed, and had a unique stance where he'd cock his knee and rotate his big backside out towards the pitcher before the windup. When you're 7 years old, there are just certain things that draw you to a player. I received a generic Royal blue t-shirt with the white Royals script on it for my birthday. I collected aluminum cans until I had earned enough money to take it to the sporting goods store and have them heat press a giant 24 with AIKENS on the back. So when I was recreating Royals games in the backyard with the plastic bat and ball, I was out there in my Aikens shirt walloping homeruns as the crowd roared!...
Harmon Killebrew.
Gene Tenace
Baseball-Rod Carew

Football-Walter Payton
I was much more pale than all of them!

When I was 12-13 years old I went to an ABA Denver Rockets game in Denver. Watched Spencer Haywood of the Rockets light it up.
After attending that game I wanted to be "The Wood!!!!!!!".
That phase lasted for a few years until I saw Dr. J and Moses Malone play. At that point I wanted to be either one, or both, of them.
ABA and NBA stars of the late 1960's and 1970's have been, are and always will be my favorite players. They had game and they had a flair and style that takes me back to my youth, when I was playing hoop.

Marvin Barnes was a phenomenal basketball player.
But he was Bad News and nuts. I remember a story about him getting mad at teammates and bringing a tire iron to practice to beat someone up.
He may have been the role model for Latrell Sprewell, he of "I am going to choke my coach to death" during practice fame.
When I saw he married a Playboy centerfold, I switched from Killebrew to Connors ;-)
Dan Marino
David Robinson
Frank Thomas
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
I had a Borg model racket growing up, but would have to go with Pete Rose.
It would be nice to be the ALL TIME HIT LEADER !!!
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
