1909 V.D.B. MATTE PROOF!

What do you think my beautifully dark brown/purple/blue toned 1909 V.D.B. Matte Proof Lincoln Wheat Cent will grade?!

( Included several pics because if you know anything about these rare early Lincoln Matte proofs, they are ridiculously hard to capture the detail/true color in one picture because they are non-reflective)

( ALL diagnostics are there for all you who wish to see, though some are hard to see with this extreme dark toning!!)

I'm guessing PR65BN, although I could easily see it in a 64 or 66 depending on the grader's opinion of the eye appeal of this radical toning!)

Lol it's obvious at this point he's trolling. He claimed his last one was being graded at PCGS but I bet his story now will be that he mis-remembered and actually sold it for a lot of cash to a dealer.

I can't see through the plastic.

    NG...Damage.

Try taking some photos without the plastic. I would like to see a better photo of the crescent die gouge to the right of the M in UNUM and the die scratches in front of the nose.

    AU 55

  • If you think this is environmental damage and not a naturally wildly toned proof cent, you need to google some pictures of toned Matte Proof Lincoln cents......

Here's one that looks most like mine of the ones I've seen.....

Is this environmental damage too? Haha.
    ;)

What ever that is to the right of the M in UNUM on the reverse it is to close to the M. Sorry no proof.

Look closely to the slabbed example....you're not looking at the right mark. There is a raised dot right next to it which you are speaking of. Toning makes its hard to pinpoint it...

What is the PCGS cert #? The pic cuts off at “PCGS....”

Agree with the others - from the photos it is not a matte proof coin. Rims, field to rim junction, letters to field are all wrong for a proof.

I love all the pics taken through plastic....

BTW - pls post the slabbing results of your other matte proof find on the other thread....

It doesn’t look like a matte proof, but never give up.

Those matte proofs are so rare that they are popping up all over.

Save your money its not a proof. As a suggestion why don't you look for something a little more obvious, say a 1955 double die.

I've also been wondering about your other 09 v.d.b. proof. Please fill us in on that one.

How about we all try helping the OP a little more. Yes, he's wrong on authentication, but he's trying and is using the CPG or Flynn's book. I'd like to hear more from the OP once he has had the coin independently evaluated.

    Just a thought....

Yes, I am guilty of that - I keep opening these threads! :p:D

RE: "U mean like the last thread he started."

I refer only to patience. If the OP were a "Troll" he/she will enjoy any nasty or demeaning comments, and relish perceiving others disbelieving comments. They feed and grow on such things because it conveys to them a feeling of control - something missing in their lives. That is the basic psychology of such minds.

Toba says there is “Less reasoning when be too sure.”

    "Over-confidence got the cat killed".

That seems to be true in most cases here on the forums. The OP would be wise to try a bit of humility and develop the confidence of his/her peers first. State your case, then if challenged, move on with irrefutable evidence (or admit when wrong--even more). Good luck! :)
