1944-P FIVE CENT PIECE - Shiny like a proof and sticks to a magnet - Plated ? With what?

I just posted this in the precious metals thread before I realized it was not the coin forum. Anyway maybe someone can tell me if this coin is plated and if so, what is it plated with since it sticks to a magnet.

Staples on the 2x2 are magnetic.

I just learned that manganese (9% of war nickels) is magnetic!

Your coin looks to have been polished, might be nickel plated.

    Chrome plating is somewhat magnetic.

Pure nickel is also magnetic so it could be nickel plated.

Thanks for the comments. As it turns out I have a 1943-P that is very similar to the 1944-P, which also sticks to a magnet. I don't know where I got these coins, I was just going through some of my old stuff I had put away years ago. I believe these are nickel plated, but I don't know why someone would do that.
