My First WWI Counterstamped Coin

Found this lil gem sorting wheat cents from over the counter. Assuming WWI based on I've read before of the Germans referred to as the "Huns". However could be Hungarian? Fawcett is a rather common last name so researching it any further might be difficult. I've done many WWII exhibits for my coin club, but this might be the small nudge I need to work on a WWI exhibit.

HUN would definitely have referred to Germans.

WWI did not get that name until WWII, and it was known by various names until then. I have never heard Hun War but it makes sense.

The Huns were originally a large tribe of barbarians from the part of Europe now called Germany who invaded the Roman Empire and helped bring about the fall of western civilization.

I think that you are thinking of the Visigoths. The Huns were from Central Asia.

They started in Central Asia and Eastern Europe and their short lived empire migrated west and conquered the Germanic people.

Either way the piece references the Germans. Anyone else have a WWI trench art pieces. Ive done a bit of digging in my junk box and might have a few more.

Not exactly trench art. this is a 16" 1903 Springfield bayonet. It's dated 1907. After 1917 the blades were parkerized. They were in use, though most were cut to 10", through WW2 and beyond.

Ive so far have held back with putting weapons in my exhibits. Although they do tell an interesting part of the War. Possible outside border of the display, however I can overfill my case already and don't want the exhibit to appear too cluttered.
