Before Mariano, who was the last person to debut for the Yankees in the HOF? (Note: You need not have gone in as a Yankee a la Nolan Ryan). Is the answer Mantle?

Question is trickier than one might think at first glance. Presumably you are excluding managers, owners and broadcasters?

Bobby Cox played for the Yankees in 1968-1969. They were the only team he played for.

Phil Rizzuto's debut with the Yankees was in 1941. Inducted in 1994.

May not be the correct answer..but after mantle.

The last player to be inducted into the HOF, and who debuted in the major leagues as a Yankee, is Joe Gordon.

He was inducted in 2009, and played for the Yankees from 1938-1943, and 1946.

As far as BBWAA-elected players, it looks like Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford are the last players inducted (in 1974), who made their major league debuts with the Yankees.

I didnt write the question, but I like Bobby Cox as the answer -- even if the question was name the last player, before Mariano, who debuted w/The Yankees ....
