Pretty good article. Many good points made.

Admittedly, at first I didn't like the new quarterback protection rules, but now I believe it's a good thing.

The quarterbacks are the biggest star attraction of the league for the most part, and as a fan it's the most fun to beat a team at its best against a star quarterback behind the center.

When all is said and done, the NFL is about entertainment, and having star quarterbacks in there, certainly adds to the entertainment value. Best to try to keep them as healthy as possible, for as long as possible.

You see what happens to a team when their QB play is poor, so yes I do believe they should protect them......but within reason and uniformly. I haven't been on this forum that long, but you can tell I'm an Eagles fan, so I have no skin in what I'm going to say. Guys like Can Newton (who I can't stand) and Big Ben, both bigger guys who play the position, tend to not get calls, possibly because of their size. I've even seen Wentz get hit in the head area a few times with no call. If it's a penalty, It's a penalty!. On the other hand I see pass rushers take a pass at the ball while the QB is throwing, miss the ball and then graze the side of his helmet and get called for roughing. These guys are football players; you can see if the intent is to harm on certain plays. I know they want to eliminate those shots altogether but some of those will happen during the course of a game, and teams should not, IMO, be penalized for incidental contact.
