question regarding whether to use insurance for shipping cards

So I'm in the process of making a private deal for around $850 for a handful of cards. The buyer says I don't need to pay for insurance. I'm guessing he will be paying paypal goods and services.
What's my best play here?
Thanks in advance.

You are on the hook until the buyer receives the cards and is happy. If the cards arrive damaged or don't arrive at all, the buyer will expect a refund. It is up to you if you want to self insure and assume the risk or pass some of the risk off to the shipping company via insurance.
The real question is will insurance pay off if a claim is filed?
My $.02. I never pay for insurance anymore. I had a very expensive putter damaged when I shipped it to the buyer. USPS was impossible to deal with. Never again.
Now when I have items that I'm concerned about I send them registered. Every single USPS Employee that touches them is documented and the are transported much more securely. There are packing requirements like all edges have to be taped with a paper tape to prevent it from being opened without showing signs of tampering. IMHO a much better way to spend the money on shipping vs insurance.

I do not purchase additional insurance beyond what is part of the small box priority which I believe is $50. I would suggest at minimum send priority shipping with signature confirmation which is what I do for high dollar cards.
LOTSOS suggestion is an excellent if you want to go that way. The one downside to registered mail is it takes a lot longer to get from point A to point B. Good luck.
You can get a policy with Collectibles Insurance Services that includes coverage of items during shipping.
I always buy insurance if the item is over $100. I have had two claims. It is a long process, but I got my money eventually.
