How is this for timing and I'm wondering what's happening.

I purchased a Topps 1962 PSA 8 Billy Willams card back in October of 2017 for $356.11. Since then, the price has skyrocketed. I wonder why?

4 of the last 5 were from the same seller who I’ve never bought from. Different cards but they were also BIN or BO. Shenanigans?
Kevin
I cant say for these, but I have noticed a lot of "shenanigans" when it comes to ebay sold listings. Card that have sold for $20 on the high side, suddenly selling for $60+. One that I saw a few months back had the same PSA card sold 4 times in a month for triple what it had regularly sold for (and when I mean same, I mean SAME serial number).
I think people have realized that people can manipulate the sold listing, average buy price data, not only for the CU site, but also on other search engines.
Thats a beautiful card!
Maybe it is because the new Star Wars is due out this year and rumored to have Lando back in the trilogy, and guess is they are confusing Billy Williams with Billy D Williams 😄 The D stands for dough (or dinero for our south of the US friends.
That's interesting.
His RC doesn't go for anywhere near that dough.
I'm guessing the power of the Registry?
I'm gonna guess the 62T is more popular than the 61T? And while there's plenty of the 8s (59), there's only four 9s - so, still, someone wanted it bad for their set and someone else also?
I don't get it?
I've removed all BIN's and BO data from my valuations. And for that matter, anything at an AH. Makes it hard, I know, but at least I have real sales.
Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks.
Prefer to buy in bulk.
Ever try to get an 8 on a 1962 card?
If it was the registry why wouldn't it have more of an effect on the rookie card?
Interesting information. Thank you for the replies.
Ya know Joe?
I'm just gonna have to file that conundrum away along with quantum entanglement.
This is interesting:
1961 Billy Williams RC - 479 graded 8, 50 graded 9
1962 Billy Williams - 50 graded 8, 4 graded 9
Both the ‘61 and ‘62 are really tough cards. The ‘61 has L-R centering issues where the 8s look more like 7s for the most part. Have been looking for an 8.5 or centered and focused 8 that I like for a while and just don’t see them. The ‘62 does not seem to be available in high grade very often. When it is it is almost always with a really high BIN. There are a lot of people who like the trophy cards and HOF trophy cards seem to demand a premium in general (‘68 Seaver, ‘69 Bench, ‘64 Rose, etc). Your Williams is beautiful and I really believe it has gone up in price since you bought it. Maybe not to the extent of the recent sales but I think you did well.
Billy Williams almost won the Triple Crown in '72. He was 3rd in HR and 2nd in RBI that year (Bench led both categories).
