Want to do a little US Mint archive research?

Here's the greeting you will receive:
Due to the shutdown of the Federal Government, National Archives facilities are closed, websites and social media are not being updated or monitored, and activities are canceled, with the following exceptions which remain open and operational: Federal Records Centers, Federal Register, the Ronald Reagan Museum, and the George W. Bush Museum.

HMMM..........that's why some stuff I'm trying to view won't open.
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.

People who do document research on contract (Ancestry and others) can't work and most won't get paid.
Also got that notice when going through the Federal Register.
Yep. On any work day about 3/4 of the people at NARA College Park doing research are there as paid contractors for companies, publishers, authors and governments. Someone from Congress is there almost every day to check facts (yes, those still are important) or look for data. When there was a dispute about the government trust fund for Native Americans, a team from the Department of Interior was there every day for months.
Many military records are there also including unit history and duty/unit reports back to before the Revolution.
