There are a two sets that i've always dreamed of starting, but haven't for reasons mostly related to money/budget.

  1. Standing Liberty Quarters -- I always thought the design was cool. And it's a nice short run, with not too many dates.
  2. Peace Dollars -- I always felt the design was beautiful. A big silver coin is cool in and of itself. Again not too many dates.

Indian cents, long run again (I just finished my Lincoln run recently) and super expensive in the grades I like. Would love to do a seated coin series but I would need (again) a big budget and some knowledge.

Flowing Hair and Liberty Cap type set -- my interpretation would have 5 coppers and 3 silvers in similar grades. Reasons for not starting yet are budget and other focus areas. Maybe someday!

Seated liberty half set, had one years ago, had to sell it and then the prices jumped. Every time I think about it, it makes me sick about how much it would cost. Maybe if the doom and gloom continues, I can put it together for what I sold it for last time.

IIRC there are 17 pieces. I own 5 pieces (added 1 today) but highly doubt the 1/2 kilo and kilo pieces will ever be in my range of comfort.

I too would love to do a nice UNC SLQ set. A friend of mine has one and they're incredible. Always been one of my favorite designs.

Matte Proof buffalo nickles. In white even and I love toning. Beautiful.

    Realatively high price in 64, 65 outweighed by short set. Two 13s, 14, 15 and a 16.

Reason for not doing it as I have a 14 in 64 that says it all basically and parking the money in the other dates doesn’t add much depth and variety to justify the cost. On the flip side, I just haven’t met another coin in that run that has me changing my mind, but hopeful it’s out there.

Southern Gold set, but that's a dream unless I win the lottery and I do not buy tickets because your chances of winning are the same whether you buy a ticket or not. Have to settle for a few nice ones in vf to au.

A set of Small size Capped Bust Quarters. They just look neat.
    Or maybe a 7070 set.

I tried to work on this set but gave up. There are no 36s or 38s and only NGC for the 40 and 41.

Barber Halves in G-VG. Affordable and classic, but I have too many other interests right now.

    PCGS 7070 Mint State Set.

I've long wanted to start both a Standing Liberty Quarter set in XF, and a Barber Dime set in VF.

Nice crusty, circulated examples. Have yet to pull the trigger, as 'un-played with' examples are hard to locate.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

A 7070 set of only errors, clips, off centers, etc. The gold part has scared me away so far. Although I did see a nice $20 clipped Liberty that was affordable......'er maybe.

Flowing hair halves by die marriage.

Haven’t due to cost and difficulty in finding wholesome pieces.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Two Cent Proofs in Brown, have always loved the design and color when toned. But, now retired it's put a real limit to my budget.

Not my coin, from Coin Facts and it's the look I love!!!

    You are my hero lablover!
I actually have all of the BS 2 Cent pieces including the 1867 DDO in a PCGS 63 Brn holder with a CAC, I only need the 1867 proof to complete my set.

Now I need to upgrade a few of my coins...………..
    Will this journey ever end?

Slq's, like others have said, cool design

  • jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,780 ✭✭✭✭✭

I am not a set builder, but I would like a set of seated quarters in XF/AU, but it would be virtually impossible to complete. 1st of all, finding the coins, and affording a few of the dates.

I also wouldn't mind assembling a set of SLQ's in AU. easily affordable, just never got it started.

I once had a complete UNC set in PCGS/some NGC, but sold it as I bought it from a collector who was selling before his death, wish I would have kept it, but really needed to turn the material at the time, it also included the overdate.

Franklin halve- haven’t gotten around to it. Walking halves- will do after Franklin. Washington silver- I would rather spend money on stuff I like more. Peace dollars, slq, all seated, Morgan’s, all capped and draped and barbers too expensive
V nickels- I want to finish buff and Jeff nickels first.

None from US coinage. I have thought of other candidates but not compiled a formal list. I don't think a single prospective US set would make my top 100. Poor relative numismatic value.
