What makes this color happen
The copper coating is tarnished. Exposure to fingers and environment does a good job in tarnishing copper from reddish to brown.
Copper is a reactive metal and will tone when exposed to numerous things in the environment. Can't say specifically what it is without analytical tests, but It doesn't look unusual
