Classic design with today's inflated face of value $50. Heck-fire I love it myself!

Modern rarity which at the height of the bubbles ...... some ANA labels fetched over 3K upon opening days.
I just wished we have more discussions on >2000 US gold types ....... since I think quite of few of us collecting them but won't talk about it :)

I'm thinking most people will simply pull their punches on this question, with the question coming from you, Paradise.

IMHO, that coin is very good or possibly great as a bullion gold coin, but it is not a numismatic coin home run either.

The modern Buffalo gold is a derivative product, a pastiche, with the original artist being long deceased and having no direct hand in this novelty [nor did the original artist have any direct hand in the 2001 Buffalo Silver Dollar].

Mixed bag. But a big piece of gold is still a big piece of gold.

If you want straight credit in the Numismatic arena, I'm thinking you need a nice original select Buffalo five cents coin from the early twentieth century.

The Buffalo design is a fav. The regular proof is a winner too.

<3 from the HEART IMHO <3

There is no tracking to the Modern subject because the answers are already there un-spoken.

I understand completely the exclusivity of those true classic and the important of substance in this hobby but I also see it as part of the problems to a certain degree if we seek for new generation to carry this hobby into the future.

The desirable classics will only becoming such rarity over time and the phenomenal effect CAC has in the market place ....... only will increase the premium even more thus decreasing the availability in so many ways for any YN.

US Mint's Designs & Marketing Innovations are essentials as we all know it but the encouragement of different take of collecting standard needs to be promoted as well by old time collectors for the survival of this hobby.

On the bottom of the Tall Pyramid the majority has been supported the whole cycles (grade regrade resell regrade resale) ........a lot ..... lots of shallow pockets greased the wheel despite of those big pieces in the registry.

It is not a myth I know .....
The classic does carry the standing in our coin community as well as certain credits in Numismatic arena for possessing such....
A new acceptance if you will is needed in conjunction with US Mint in cultivating a new vibe to attract YNs.

It's a distance THIRTIETH CENTURY but the circle is almost un-penetrable it seems ............ :)<3

Its a cool looking big chunk of gold, almost everyone here loves gold and enjoys the design myself included congrats on the new addition. The question as to will this; and many of the other mint offerings; gain any numismatic value or only be regarded as bullion only time will tell. But no matter the outcome it wont diminish the joy you get when you look at this and the other coins in your possession.

100 yrs old from now this will be classic ......... in 2113 but I won't be here unfortunately :#

    IMHO,

Great coin as recent bullion, but it will take another one or two generations to sort out its place in the big Numismatic scheme of things. Sorry but true. The first modern even-weight bullion coin was only 50 years old in 2018, and the whole category itself is new-Ish.

YNs aren't going to be collecting $1300 gold coins by date and mintmark and special finish anyway (well, some of the YNs at the ANA Summer Seminar could prove me wrong...). Dragging in the YNs as some kind of justification is a sign of a weak argument. If something requires active "promotion", that also suggests some inherent weakness.

If the U.S. Mint were not in some form of severe retrograde slippage, it would come up with better new designs instead of copying (and bastardizing) the design classics of the early twentieth century.

In due respect I am a YN myself collecting $1300 gold coins by date and mintmark and special finish :)

@BillDugan1959 keep digging, lol keep digging.

Edited to add: It's sad that you think it's ok to demean and degrade others just because she is not showing a picture of a buffalo nickel. It's that kind of thinking that chases collectors off this board and out of coin collecting.

Everyone should have a gold buffalo. You may as well get a nice one and that fits the bill.

Love the coin PF. Great for you to rally the YNs. I'm somewhat in agreement that most YN won't afford these beauties, but it doesn't mean they can't LUST over them. However, there are other options for collectable modern gold such as $5 AGEs or similar 1/10th (or smaller) pieces from around the world.

I for one, do not own any gold buffs simply by preference as there's some great classic non-modern gold out there for similar prices. I did have a nice stash of the 2008 fractional buffs, but took the $$ and ran when the bubble peaked!!

I will just continue to purchase what I like, for whatever reasons that I like it. Just think about what it would be like to post smaller mintage foreign (private) mint silver 'collector' coins here... no reason to take the punishment from the REAL collectors. I guess it will continue to be 'made my mistakes' portion of my collection. That's ok with me.

I do love classics too... it's just kept to a 'box of 20' to keep me focused.
