This I can state for a fact, the dealer community (save the few involved) really do want coin doctoring to stop.
You and other ethical coin dealers want coin doctoring to stop. I have a feeling that you all are in the minority. I hope I am wrong and that any crusade against doctoring is successful.

Hello! To Laura and those I know already: Thanks for the support and kind words! To those I don’t know yet: I’m looking forward to meeting you as soon as possible.
I appreciate all of the comments and questions that are already flowing my way.
Heather and I are working together on doing a major question and answer series on the boards over the next few weeks that I think will answer a tremendous amount of questions. (No need to get one started preemptively. I can assure you it will happen, please be patient!)
I know already that I can’t do EVERYTHING all at once, and I certainly can’t do it alone. But I can assure that there are a lot of fantastic people at PCGS who are ready to shine and will be empowered to do just that. While we can't do everything at once, we will leave no stone unturned when it comes to making positive innovative changes and improving the customer experience.
While servicing the hobby by taking on the doctors and the counterfeiters is certainly hopeful from a collector's perspective, I remain concerned about what a business like PCGS can do to sustain an adequate income stream. Ploys like the plus designations and 100-point scales to just get people to cycle through the same coins is essentially limited, and burns out the customer base.
If I knew what to do instead, I guess I would have been hired instead of our new president.
I wish you well, though, and I await what creativity you bring to this challenge.
I played the + game thing. I know the quality of the coins I have! When it takes many multiple submissions to achieve your goal...it kills it! I would just like to see an even...FAIR opinion on coins I submit.
The last submission I made over a year ago was so grossly under graded I stopped submitting! This is after watching PCGS grade crap that shouldn't be in holders for over a year previous! When I can't even get old Brown + Dunn grading I quit!
I am not by myself. Many dealers I know with much more clout than I have said the same.
I really don't know how you can right the ship...But I hope you can!

Mr. Charville,
Welcome to your new position. I hope you can help PCGS grow to be all it can be, for we will all be cheering from the side. The OP said to let ideas fly. Mine is not one of great numismatic importance, but a matter of forum convenience. I would like to see the BST divided into an actual BST in which we members sell our numismatic material and the other side to offer a web site to sell our individual wares such as ebay, heritage, great collections et al. When a forum member wishes to search for material they would not waste time going to a website searching through a list of items but the BST would be for the sale only of each members wares or at least not force the member to search for their wares on another website.
Thank you for your time. Hope I haven't wasted it.

Congratulations Brett!
You have the perfect opportunity to make major changes. Yes PCGS is public, so what.
To stop the grading issues revenue might have to be cut in half. So what. Just do it.
Blame the old regime which caused the problem. Perhaps double or even triple the grading fees. At first people, will cry and detest it and you. But in time PCGS will be better off. You won’t get fired.
Restore respect and integrity to the company. Forget revenue for now. Sometime a company has to go backwards before it can improve.
Embrace CAC
Change the outdated registry scoring.
Get rid of the grading shows. They are a good money maker because the grading is
purposely looser. If it were the same as office grading no one would submit.
Stop the practice of allowing coins to sent to the office and resent to the grading shows
That is absurd.
Ban any and all coin doctors. YOU know who they are.
Cross all CAC coins. Pcgs should want the strictly graded coins in their holders.
If you have guts, take a digital fingerprint if every coin and do not allow regrades.
Make a big difference. Pain equals gain.
Good luck!
While I have respect for you. I do not have a problem with the way Registry Sets are scored. The problem I have is there does seem to be +'s awarded that should not be and +'s not awarded that should be!

EVERYONE makes mistakes. Barring regrades is insane. I also disagree that PCGS should automatically cross any coin. PCGS is being paid for its own opinion, and it should continue to give its opinion independent of anyone else's opinion. As for the other stuff, there are some nice fantasies but the share holders would revolt.

Stopping coin doctors and consistent grading are extremely important but the rest of this list is dead on arrival. Cutting revenue in half is a great way to get fired. Obviously, you are not a shareholder.
Congratulations Brett. New younger blood to attempt to solve old problems is refreshing.
The Counterfeit situation is a no brainer. Obviously they must be stopped in order to preserve our hobby.
Coin doctors- someone of Brett’s experience knows many of the “guilty” parties. We will have to wait and see how they are handled under the new regime. Hopefully there will be additional scrutiny given to these submitters.
Fake toning already in PCGS slabs. Only an extensive buy back program will eliminate the supply. BUT the coins were toned after encapsulation thus voiding the guarantee. So now what?????
Obvious mistakes already holdered. I would like to see a budget for each year dedicated to removing some of these from circulation. How about a small surcharge to each invoice to be matched by PCGS for this program? This would split the responsibility between the collecting public and PCGS with each party eventually winning. Less dreck on the market bolstering PCGS coin prices gives more incentive to slab with PCGS.
Attribution problems. There are more than a few complaints here about incorrect attributions on the holders. Please review your procedures for this service and consider new/additional consultants who are recognized in their specialty. Or, consider bringing in experts to educate staff.
GOOD LUCK. Your success translates into our success in the long run.
I, like others, are willing to help. Just ask.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.

Problems with 100 point scale are many-fold. Collectors with limited funds like me who are already hurt by a market with no bottom in sight are huge in numbers. For TPG's to survive on only 4 and 5 figure coins will be impossible. Dealers beware of this movement toward 100 point scale because you as shareholders may end up without buyers if current market continues its downward slope.

Could you imagine almost everyone insisting on PCGS encapsulated bullion?
It could happen...I'm almost there.
That might keep PCGS going forever
One of my suggestions was to strategically provide an alternative to OGP for modern gift coins (birthdays, holidays) that include the gold/silver weight on the insert. This way it can provide authentication, grade and even weight to get people started stacking in PCGS slabs.
People give gifts every year and it is a gateway to building future collectors. Gifts really aren't priced as bullion even though the coin may be considered one.
I was just in a coin store for a national dealer (going to FUN, with PCGS Saints, Seated Dollars, auctioneer for major auction houses, etc.) who told me that Spiderman and other coins are super popular with kids. Here's what ATS provides (6 sold for $199 each). Imagine if kids preferred TPG packaging for bullion silver and gold?
For these, I wonder how much ATS makes on these Spiderman slab kits. Are they involved with the boxes and pouches?
The dealer wishes the US Mint would do coins like this because this is what kids want.
Now that I've looked this up, I'm wondering if it's a worthwhile Christmas present this year.
I would and I know double eagles pretty well.
That doesn't mean other people will take my word for it.
So far as any other bullion coin goes, I have no idea if it has a tungsten slug core.
When I think of "bullion" real $20 gold coins aren't what springs to mind.
Although they're bullion now, the only ones I buy in bulk are slabbed already.
To me bullion is Eagles, Rands, Phillies, Maples.
I would not pay to slab those. You can get "coin shop" boxes and plastic for gift use but slabbing adds postage and time and to me is not practical.
Back to the "Dear President" theme...... I REALLY hope the 100 point idiocy isn't on the board.
Strict and consistent grading within the 70 points is accepted and solid and practical.
CAC is enough hurdle. Changing numbers would be the last straw.
