Registry set questions
When did the registry sets begin?
who were the first ones that listed their sets?
Funny how things have changed and yet still the same.

I started my set 1997 and registered it on 9/8/2002. It was a 20th Century Type set. I completed the set in 2004 (45 coins). At that time, if your set was in the top 5, you could send to PCGS and get free pedigree. I did that and only had to pay the shipping. I have keep this set together from 2004. At times, upgrades slip into the set, I have to go back and put my orginal coins back in. The set has dropped from top 5 (high of 3, I think) to currently 14th and all-time 28th. I keep the coins in a binder (5 pages & 9 coins per page) and it really makes a set.
There were not that may people in 2002. I think the first sets were registered around April 2002. I think Keith may have came first.
These are the orginal people that I remember..
Keith Dagen
Dibigkahuna
Cosmic Debris
High Desert
HD and I can soon after the first three...

PCGS launched the set registry in 2001 and NGC followed suit shortly thereafter.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I remember when the 1938 proof set started
I hurried up and listed my set
Being the first to list I was #1 for almost a whole day.
Now that was fun being able to say I had the # 1 set.
I'm sure there are a lot of really great sets out there that aren't in the registry.

Things are not the same, sets should be in a nice proper album (IMHO), and THAN judged by whomever happens to be interested in looking at it.
