Are you sure that coin is fake? I don't see anything in your pics that would lead me to think it's fake. I'd like to see better pics if at all possible.

What are the diagnostics/indicators for the counterfeit?

Instead of measuring in oz's try grams. I think that 1.13oz would be a tad high, right? Should be about 1.08 oz?

My brain is not computing ounces at the moment. LOL

    What is it in grams?

I think I have the same scale, too.

Bummer. But it could still be gold, right? Get it tested. Might have some value.

    Maybe gold-plated tungsten?

Hmm... if so, then it would have to be ever so slightly thicker in some way since tungsten is slightly less dense than gold.

    Interesting.

    Time for the caliper. LOL

Here is the only one I am aware of and only because they told me so! However, in an earlier thread @jmlanzaf said I have a couple in a pic of several silver dollars. I still haven't figured out which ones he was talking about. I'm beginning to think he was just a lil' hot under the collar... :D

I am unsure. I obtained it in 1982 by answering an ad in Coin World. It cost me $40 in 90% silver in trade. I sent this in to ANACS and it came back "non-genuine". I guess the seller's P.O. Box address should have been a big red flag.

Kinda scary how many fakes are out there. I suppose I will have some real fake ones to post one day. And before you say anything, slabbed are faked too...

  • AkbeezAkbeez Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭✭✭

DANG -- wish these included the features that counterfeited them -- THANKS for posting!

What are pipe stones? I think I might have saw a few of them today at a jewelry/coin store. I remember seeing what looked like lil elephant tusks coming out of brass fittings, what looked like an old straight pipe. If so, let me know and I will go back and take pics for you.

I'm going back tomorrow anyway for some UC & PC sets.

Couldn't find the thread at the moment but, at that moment for some reason Nugent came to mind and only had to change one word. Plus, I figured a coin scratch would make people itch a lil :o

The S mintmark doesn't look like the right shape or style so it may be an added mintmark.
