Added to the Austrian noble house part of the collection. These were minted as part of private minting rights granted by the emperor to certain noble houses. Davenport has a small booklet covering these. Mostly low mintage, amounting to hundreds per issue. I was fortunate to pickup the taler to complete the Paar set (had the 1/2 Taler).

1794 Paar. Austria. Johann Wenzel (1744 - 1812) Taler. Vienna Mint. DAV-1194. Rare noble house private issue with mintage of 250. PCGS MS-63.

1794 Paar. Austria. Johann Wenzel (1744 - 1812) Half Convention Taler. Vienna Mint. Holzmair 72. Mont. 2951. Very scarce piece in any grade. Seems like a very early strike with a fabulous reverse. Mintage of 400. NGC MS-63.

Nice addition to complement the existing Paar piece. Interesting backstory on the family and postal management responsibilities. Am I reading this literally as they were the official courier service for parts of the Holy Roman Empire? The FedEx of the pre-modern central European region?

The mintage of 400......wow. Any estimates on surviving population?

Thanks Brent. The Taler actually has a montage of 250. Per auction records not many come up for auction which does not necessarily mean lower survival as they may remain with these families. Anyways, Davenport has a nice booklet mapping these.
