Congrats on the high grades! What does "altered stock" mean? Also, do those 90 packs have stars on top? I think PSA will put on the label if a star is showing.

I wonder why almost all of those 1990 packs only graded 8? Would seem at least one would get a 10, and that there would be plenty of nines...what was it that caused all of the packs to only get an 8, if you know off hand?

Getting a 9 or 10 on any wax pack is very tough. In my experiences, any touch of corner wear can knock it down to an 8.

I missed out on the info on the NNOF packs?

I'm assuming like other "error" cases - some did get thru?

    Congratulations on those 72T cellos!

The NNOF was mostly pulled from grocery/retail wax though there were documented pulls in hobby wax (the Griffey box). Most people will tell you it came from an early print run, or even the first print run. This fact has never been definitively proven as far as I can tell. I've tried to track down people who pulled the NNOF and find out when exactly they bought the pack, but we're talking 28 years ago and I haven't been able to narrow it down.

Read this for background on that box he's talking about:

Since part of this thread was wiped out, I'll repost this information:

In 2013, I bought two of the green 1990 Topps wax boxes (with Griffey pictured on top) from a guy. I opened all of the packs in one of the boxes and pulled a NNOF Thomas and about 6 of the other known blackless error cards. All of the orange sheet cards I pulled that would have been part of the affected blackless streak, were indeed the blackless error versions.

I then started opening packs from the second box. In the first few packs, I pulled a Kenny Rogers cards with a slanted blue print line across the front (that same blue slanted line appears across the front of all the Kevin Tapani blackless errors I have). I also then pulled one of the blackless errors (I believe it was a Joe Magrane All Star card)). At that point, I stopped opening the packs and put that box with the remaining packs away until this past summer...when I decided to send the 33 remaining packs in to PSA to be graded.

the great NNOF thread has all of this info in it. Congrats RookieWax on the grades. Did PSA make any sort of notation on the flip about the provenance of the 1990 packs?

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

No....I didn't share any information about the packs when I sent them in. Even if I did though, it's doubtful they would have done anything like that.
