Is there a term or acronym ....

I have a couple of Lincoln cents where a particle has splintered away from it's intended place. Is there a term and/ or acronym for this occurrence? This is one of the coins. You can see (Reverse) the piece on the U in United. It looks like a little leaf with a flower blooming. The other coin, which I don't have a pic of, is a piece of the top of the O in the word Of, where it's completely broken away and floating between States and Of. Thanks for your help :)

The photo is a bit blurry, but possibly a die chip?

Those with much more experience will give you better answer.

Lamination flaw. You shall see this on cents and nickels. Peace Roy

The U looks like a die chip. Extra metal on the letter due to a chip in the die.

  • Yes, yes! Thats it JBK, I remember reading about the condition, but forgot what it was called. Thanks
