One of the few Giants I always liked.

RIP, Stretch. You were truly one of the greats.

Met him at a card show in the early 1980's. Very generous with his time. RIP

Some of my first memories are of watching him when he was with the Padres from 1974-1976. He, Dave Winfield and Randy Jones, are my three favorite Padres of all-time. I still remember getting his autograph as he came off an elevator from the clubhouse at SD Stadium back in 1974, and I still have the ball he signed.

    Rest in Peace Willie.

Growing up in the Bay Area, McCovey was a great role model. Got this one signed at a local card show back in 1980ish.

Mays was on my paper route in Menlo Park. have several of his autos. Always gracious to sign a young kids card.

RIP. What a great hitter he was. He's on one of my favorite RBI cards.

sad to hear this. I think he had been failing for awhile. he seemed to play his best while he was under the shadow of mays. great player on his own though

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

I saw him play as an Oakland A ! Mid seventies I think, right after Ray Kroc dumped him. I remember it being a really long and fun game with almost nobody there (we snuck down and got great seats!).

Had a chance to meet Willie at his restaurant in Walnut Creek in 2003. He was kind, quiet and seemed real limited physically. I remember thinking at the time he may not have many years left. Glad he did.

He signed a shirt for my Dad which he still has hung up. RIP Willie.

It's July of 1959 and I went to the candy store to pick up the newspaper for my dad.

And McCovey was big news - in his ML debut, he went 4 for 4! And the rest is history.

    RIP Willie.

Willie played on 3 of the 5 teams based in california. Is he the best player able to claim that? I'd probably put Rickey, who played for all 5, above Willie, but cant think of anyone else close,

I will never forget the 1962 World Series the ball he hit against Ralph Terry in game 7.I was just 13 years old then. That was the hardest ball I have ever seen hit .Bobby Richardson probably
Thought his hand was gonna fall off after that one.He was probably the most strongest and intimidating hitter ever to play this game.
    RIP Willie.
