Mercury Dime questions?

jesbrokenjesbroken Posts: 9,309 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a 1940 S Mercury Dime that has a die crack from rim at 6 oclock up through neck and crevice upward and either the end of this one or another die crack from wing to rim at 1-2 oclock. The FS-10-1940S-901(Dr Wiles 2-O-II-C) lists the lower die crack and then the upper die crack he lists as a 1-O-VI but with no mention of the lower die crack. He states that their is no LDS of this wing to rim crack. I wonder if this is the LDS listed in FS-10-1940S-901 and is not two separate devices? Here is a photo of both cracks closeup and then of the obverse.
Thanks
Jim

I'm not a Merc. Dime Die Variety specialist at all,
and although I've seen the earlier die-state
numerous times, that later state with the much
thicker crack is very scarce, I believe .

Variety? I have no idea. For years I have been looking for the 40S with Die Cracks. Quite a few of them are around compared to other dates.
