Who would've ever thought in a million years UK football would be playing for FIRST PLACE???

I haven't been around here as much lately but I am just so excited and pleased as berry blue punch that my beloved alma mater in football, FOOTBALL is gonna be playing for first frickin' place in the SEC East!! For the longest time we have, in sharp contrast to our basketball team being the SEC's Evil Empire, our football team has been like the Chicago Cubs (well pre-2016) of the SEC. And now we and our opponent GA, both with identical records, will be playing in Commonwealth for first place????

Wow, should we indeed pull it off this Saturday I hope that field is torn to pieces and both goalposts are paraded all the way around New Circle Road!

When I looked at the title to this thread my first thought was:

When did Britain start playing American football?

Then I saw who posted the thread and I understood that UK is the Kentucky Wildcats.

Yeah they play a different kind of football! And IIRC most other countries think the US is real weirdos for being this much into college teams, especially if we didn't even go to those schools (though in my case I really did go to UK...the school not the country!).

Indeed I hope maybe I can find out how the Cubs fans felt in 2016! Because our football team is in fact like the Chicago Cubs of the SEC...our last major bowl game was in 1950 just like how their last WS appearance before then was in 1945. Now to mention in our 103 year franchise history...we only won eight games in a season nine times.

Yeah well, who knows when we'll ever get another chance like this though...the last time we had a major game of this magnitude was our upset of #1 LSU in 2007...and of course the really magical 1997 upset of the Evil Empire of SEC football:

And of course we couldn't even handle a less than .500 ballclub...exactly what happened in 2007 when we actually was able to move up to 8th(!!) place in the polls and we stupidly let a team with a losing season beat us.

We may still get into a good bowl game but certainly nowhere near what we could've done. Problem is, who knows when we'll get another chance like this?

Well, it was indeed disappointing to let that TN one get away but still, we did get nine wins for first time in nearly 35 years and for only the fifth time in franchise history overall (1949, 1950, 1977, 1984). And it's not official but it's most likely we'll get the Citrus Bowl, which is a major MAJOR improvement over those boring 6-7 win bowls we're used to getting.
