So sorry to hear this. Haven't heard that name in years, had recently been wondering about Rube. Had some fun nights in chat years ago! RIP

Awful news, I have so many PM’s back and forth from him years ago. He was a crazy guy but a very good guy, I had a lot of fun with him here and over at Matt’s. ( Lawnmowerman) private forum. He was a Vietnam Veteran too. Sad news

Randy was a good guy! He was a trip late at Night when he got lubed up and got going. There was a ton personality on this board at one time. It’s kind of sad to think about all the guys that have come and gone. RIP Randy

RIP Randy. One of the good guys of this forum. This used to be filled with so much personality and activity, it really was fun. Thanks to some trolls and the mods handing out bans like they were going out of style, it's really sucked the life out of this place.

  • StingrayStingray Posts: 8,843 ✭✭✭

I thought he had passed earlier too?? Must be he was banned so long ago?? He was definitely a fun read with his posts and another good one gone!!

I recall him having one heck of an autograph collection......

RIP Randy! Sad to read this today.

Mike, I remember those days. Some great reading here back then!

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,347 ✭✭✭✭✭

Years ago someone started a "poster of the year" thread for this forum. If I'm remembering right, Mike won the award the first year in which the vote likely was unanimous...and I think Randy won it the second year.

I can't recollect who won it the third year, the interest may have fizzled out by then perhaps due to nobody really being a clear third choice?

    Hiya Kirk

I just checked my PM record - here's a PM from him - he was always amusing.

For those who don't know/remember - before Jackie, Carol Bennett was SportsMod2 and responsible for bamming Randy and also me once.

Randy was quite effective in yanking Carol's chain from what I remember.

Randy was booted somewhere around 2009.

For some reason the old guy has been on my mind lately. He was a cantankerous guy (that is putting it mildly) but he was a great guy and someone who always had an opinion but if you were his friend he loved ya. Farewell my good friend.......farewell!!

I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

I think Randy would like seeing many of the old "faces" that have commented on this post that don't post much here anymore. But obviously still lurking! ;)

  • He lived about 30 miles away and we chatted quite a bit on here, but never met up.

I'll probably get hate messages for this, but which Randy Rube passed away? There's a senior, and a junior.
For those that didn't know, the Rube that posted here on the boards was the son living through the dad's persona as the goofy crazy Vietnam vet. Senior Rube doesn't even collect sportscards. Regardless, RIP randy

    You know this how??

This was talked about over on another board. The one that banned members went to.

Well, that was a weird turn of events, I didn't know it was his son posting on this forum.

  • BrickBrick Posts: 4,992 ✭✭✭✭✭

I thought Randy posted once pretending to be his son. Boy am I confused.

Randy was a lot of fun, we used to talk a lot late at nite on the other forum. Never was quite sure exactly who he was, father or son, but he'd get pretty lit up and was always entertaining. He was generous and cared a lot about his friends.
This board, like most, has gone thru peaks and valleys. It was really lively and informative from about '01 to '04, when an event caused a lot of people to leave. It ramped up again a few years later and was really strong, and then some over reaction tamped it down. Picked up again and then a new design stiffled things a bit. It'll pick up again, it always does.
But I doubt we'll see someone like Rube again. He was one of a kind. RIP.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

I bought a card from his Ebay account on Oct 21, 2018. Received it on the 24th.
I didn't even notice it was him until I saw the return address.
