At least this won't happen at a football game.
Yikes.
(CNN) — He described it as "one of the worst days" of his life after US Ryder Cup star Brooks Koepka discovered his wayward golf shot caused a woman to lose sight in one eye.
The 28-year-old golfer said he was "heartbroken" and "all messed up inside" when Corine Remande revealed the shot that fractured her right eye socket and caused an "explosion of the eyeball" had left her permanently without vision.
"It's a tragic accident, I'm heartbroken," Koepka told reporters Tuesday at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews in Scotland.
"I'm all messed up inside. It will definitely be the one shot I regret in my career. Yesterday was one of the worst days of my life."
Koepka said he had reached out to the family and hopes to talk to Remande.
"I'm torn up about it," he added. "She's not going to be able to see out of her eye again and I hit the golf ball, it's upsetting."

I always tell golf spectators to keep their eye on the ball. Some people just go overboard.
Is it too soon?
No, she's already filed a lawsuit against the venue.
I feel terrible for her and the Golfer, but how is it the venue's fault? That is the chance you take being there.
and on top of that, BK almost came to blows with DJ on the plane to Paris AND at the afterparty
and on top of that, Patrick Reed once again shot his mouth off to create dissension only the way he knows how
as i told Larkin via text, the European squad was a cohesive unit. those guys got it. we, on the other hand, were a bunch of individual prima donnas masquerading as team players
i for one am glad we got our asses handed to us......it's exactly what we deserved

She won't in court win one cent from the venue. But they might pay her medical expenses for public goodwill although I don't believe that they are legally required to do so.> @DIMEMAN said:
In court, she won't win one cent from the venue, basically because of what you stated.
However the venue might pay her medical expenses for public goodwill reasons, although I don't believe that they are legally required to do so, unless negligence can be proven.
I agree. I remember back in Jack's day we (USA) had had a good team.
Glad to see we have a lot of expertise in French legal liability here.
Oh a wise guy, eh? LOL
I didn't even know where the Ryder Cup was played, and I don't even give a chit. It's FOOTBALL season.
Yeah...no kidding. I watch in wonder when a golfer is in the gallery hitting to the fairway and fans are lined up tightly on either side. These are pros certainly but stuff happens.
Getting close to the action is fine and one of the benefits of going to golf tournaments, but being in front of where the golfers are hitting where a 2-3 degree error gets you hit by the ball, not so much. Surrounding the green on a driveable par-4 without paying attention when players are driving is equally dumb.
in this woman's defense, she may very well have been paying attention. even under relatively tranquil conditions at a golf tournament, hearing 'fore' from the tee box of a driveable par-4 is highly unlikely. we're generally talking 300+ yards away. then toss in the fact that the Ryder Cup is anything but relatively tranquil, and i can almost guarantee you she heard nothing. and the reason that cry is so vital is because oft times you are going to lose the ball off the club of a bomber like Koepka, even if you're watching. next thing you know, it's like a missile raining down on you from the sky; you don't know it's coming.......until it's too late.
took these pictures of him at the Fort Worth Invitational earlier this year. when he hits the golf ball, it doesn't make a normal sound. think shot out of a cannon. i can't -- repeat cannot -- imagine being hit square in the eye by one of his drives.

I’m actually surprised something like this has never happened before
When my buddy's teeing up, we all know better than to stand where you took these pictures from too. He's been known to extremely 'toe' a few tee shots
Spectators get hit all the time and usually get an autographed golf glove out of the ordeal.
yup. the sad irony is that spectators don't mind being hit. i'd even go so far to say that they want to for the very reason you mentioned -- they will most certainly go home with an autographed ball or glove. but it's all fun and games until 1/1,000,000 happens.

I worked at a country club mowing a long time a go. I took a shot to the coin purse once , that was a shock. I saw the ball coming but it hit a tree and I got the ricochet . No way to react in time .
Fixed
"Remande said she appreciated the gesture from Koepka who came over to check she was ok and handed her a signed glove."
Cheap way to buy your way out of a lawsuit I guess.
and now Phil is kvetching

Is the "coin purse" where I think it is!
So the mowing involved a couple of acres?
If you want to watch team players then watch Lexi Thompson/Christie Kerr or Michelle Wie/Jessica Korda like I've been doing. Very enjoyable watching them work together as a team.

If there is no disclaimer on the price of admission on ticket i do believe she can take the venue to court as an example when i attend race car events there is a disclaimer that if you are hurt during the activities the promoter is not liable years ago two people at Michigan International Raceway were killed because of flying debris because there was not a disclaimer printed on the ticket the promoter was sued and the organizers had to pay.
Perhaps some of the legal scholars can chime in. Of course the European site caries different implications. Obviously the golfer had no intention of hitting the spectator, but the fact that she was hit and seriously injured perhaps infers some liability as it occurred at this place of business.
Woman is from Egypt and it may be a hardship to cover her medical expenses. At least get her a glass eye.
