I am considering selling my PCGS 1916/1916 good-06 buffalo nickel, and I was looking for some advice as to how to do this. Go to a big auction house like Heritage, or try putting an ad in Coin World or?? I was lucky to buy this coin off of flea bay for $2400 a few years ago and did so because it looked to be at least a good-04, and I thought it had a good shot at an 06, which turned out to be the grade it got. This is my favorite grade for this coin along with good-04 and even AG-03. There are any number of acid treated coins on eBay right now and they are always offered at over a grand but never seem to sell. Any advice or comments would be appreciated.

A few months ago a very nice 1916DDO buffalo nickel sold on the BST. May be worth a try there. The BST is free so you really have nothing to lose.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

    Questions you need to answer:

How much demand is there for low grade 1916DDO Buffalo Nickels? You may like a low grade coin but how many others do?

Are there any recent legit auction results for a coin in this grade? (Forget about eBay Buy It Now prices. You only want actual sale results.

Was the $2400 you paid for the coin a reflection of the true market or was it a reflection of your own excessive enthusiasm. In other words, are you buried in the coin at that level.

If I sell this in a major auction will the coin merit a photo or will it just get a very short write-up and nothing more?

How quickly will I receive my money if I sell via a major auction?

    All glory is fleeting.
