Card Polishing?

I am pretty green when it comes to grading newer cards. I recently heard a case breaker refer to polishing an NT card for grading. Can anyone clue me in on what this might be referring to? Thanks

Only polishing I ever heard personally did was to remove wax stains from the front of cards. works decently
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
ive polished the grime off old Bowmans Best Atomic refractors with Meguiars PlastX. Anyone that is familiar with them, knows the grime builds on the surface. However, buff too hard and you will wear away the clear coat and ruin the card.

Interesting, thanks a lot, guys
I wonder if there is a way to polish the clear acetate on some 96 Pinnacle Skylines I have. They get really "cloudy" over time and lose their transparency.
Back in my card show days i used to carry a nylon stocking in my kit so i could clear wax stains and gum residue. I would buy cards with stains on the cheep and fix them. Even old cards could be cleaned up this way.
