I don't know why I stopped in a thrift shop figuring maybe I'd find coins. I didn't although I did pick up a nice reference book for 3.99. Images are b&w and sharp. The history alone is worth the price. Even has some mint error and die variety facts. Peace Roy

If it weren't for the tokens, the Canadian catalog might not have been 25 pages long in those halcyon days!
Not only that but there's playing card money to boot! The provinces exercised their independence thru their currency, for sure. Peace Roy

They were hurting for monetary exchange to use until Canada got its independence in 1867 and then weren't really getting much coinage until the mid 1870's. Between bank and merchant tokens, there was lots to choose from.
So I see. I am glad I found this book.

I keep an old Charlton around as well. It's handy to have all the interesting stuff in one little volume. Vexator Canadiensis, for example.

Thanks ajaan but one is enough for me. I love historic stuff and I've got a bunch of old Canadian coins to go thru. Peace Roy
