What’s the deal with this? I keep seeing these on eBay. It’s like minting money for this seller. $1-4 each I see people pony up to buy these. I guess a great business model, but dang they are smushing ole TJ.

Is he the one making them?
I don’t know who makes them, I have noticed the listings for a few months now and usually from the same seller. I wonder how big the press is or what ever is used to stamp the coins.
They are described as a Trump item, yet I don’t know if they are anti trump or pro trump.

They were made by Shire Post Mint. I am pretty sure the guy on eBay is not the maker. Last I saw they were still on the Shirepost website in bags of 100 or 200.
This is maybe the 4th of this type of double counterstamp that Shirepost has made in the past 10 or so years.
I have a pile of them - if they are really selling on eBay I need to list some.... It did take me a long time to sell a dollar coin I had with this counterstamp, and it was infinitely rarer than the nickels. It finally went for a Buy It Now on eBay for $8. A bargain, in my opinion, since if I did not already own one I would have paid more than that.
Poor Jefferson can't get a break. He gets whacked no matter what coin he's on.
Thank you for the info. I looked it up and yes that’s the origin. Neat about the dollar coin. The nickels have been selling on eBay for a few bucks almost consistently. I haven’t bought one yet.

Any other modern counterstamps out there that are interesting?
I think the old chop marks on trade dollars can be attractive.

There are actually a handful of modern counterstampers who are active. The ones from Tom Maringer's (and son Woody) Shirepost Mint are sort of the pinnacle of the medium, as they use small dies to create these great two sided pieces.
There have been some coin clubs also in the past few decades who have sponsored some elaborate ones. There have also been a few more conventional counterstamps in the past few decades,
