Question: Do 1980-81 Topps basketball cards have a significantly thinner type card stock? Not familiar at all with this set.

I have a chance to pick up the card below, but when I took the card out of its case I thought it seemed thin and pretty flimsy. Is this typical or is this a red flag?

Thinking about picking this card up. Definitely off center, but does have some nice qualities such as color and sharp corners.

8oc. Nice card. Looks like you scathed the major snow and print marks.

    Thanks,

Nice PSA 7 likely, but could squeak in an 8 since little to no snow or PD. congrats--sharp card!

I think you get a 7 on that one

I think this card does feel lighter than others because of the perforations and in how they give slightly each time the card is moved. It feels unusual in between the fingers and feels a bit light every time I pick one up.

Anybody else familiar with 1980 Topps basketball?
Is the card stock noticeably thinner due to the perforated cards?

  • I don't find this issue to be thinner than other issues.

A card which has not been folded or ripped from the perf should present as another card in my experience.

I've always noticed this set has a different card stock and overall feel than any other sets in this era. Not sure if I'd call it thin or flimsy though.

I'm sure there are plenty of counterfeits of this card, but I don't think that's one of them. It would be pretty pointless to forge this card just to make it as badly off centered as this one is. Still looks like a solid 8 or maybe a 9 (OC) to me. Good luck

Another nice quality is it doesn't have the dreaded black line under Johnson.
