Hey - I won a coin tonight
Was on my way to dinner when I got a text from a friend who bid on a coin for me at ~ 20% below my max:
ANGLO-SAXONS: Anonymous, ca. 695-740, AR Sceatta, S-790, Continental series E, degenerate diademed 'porcupine' head right, bars for face // debased altar adorned with central pellet, right angles and bars, indistinct characters surround periphery, a superb well-struck lustrous example! NGC graded MS64.
(I may crack this out and let it sit on my window sill for a year or two.)
I already have one of these, but my friend really felt that this would be a substantial upgrade. You be the judge:
The best part of this win tonight is that I was itching to buy something and this was cheap enough that I didn't stress over the hit on my bank account.

BTW, the lot description is from the seller who is not a specialist in Anglo-Saxon material. If I were writing the description, I would have used different verbiage.

I know nothing of this series but I can see that your newp has a more complete strike whereas your other one is flat in the high spots. Congratulations on a great acquisition. I also won a coin today in the Stephen Album auction but it's rather well worn in comparison.
obviously you need to collect these by die variety, series, phase
Nice upgrade.
Set that one on your window sill between to taco bell napkins.
I’m trying to learn more about these, so I might. We’ll see.
Thanks. I have a suitable window sill.

Very nice. Those NGC prongs sure do a disservice to small (all) coins.
Your current example is a perfect looking circ, but I see how the new one is technically superior. Seems like the new one should be easy to tone up a bit, not that I would ever do that personally...
Handsome coin!

Very nice, congratulations !!!
I haven't received the new coin yet, but I took another look at my old coin.
With the high relief, particularly on the obverse, it is hard to tell how much circulation the coin actually got. The protected, recessed, areas are extremely frosty. On the reverse, with more open area, there is no obvious amount of wear. It has a grade of EF (British grading) by the seller, which I think is close enough (could be "Near EF"), and usually translates to a US grade of AU55 to MS63. From an in-hand assessment of my coin, I'd say it's at least AU55.

2 months?? That is a powerful windowsill. Coin looks great now.
I know. I should either get my windows replaced or check my filters, or both.
