The PWCC PQ Sticker...

Originally...I did not think it was a good idea for PWCC to have a second type of sticker designating quality/eye appeal with respect to the assigned grade...but I cannot argue with the results. Check out a couple of these results from last night's auction:

'60 McCovey psa-8 PQ-----> $3675
'63 Mantle psa-8 PQ-------> $3150
69 Reggie RC psa-8 PQ----> $4500 (I wanted this card but was the underbidder) It sold for just $300 less than an 8.5 Reggie RC!!!!

    It probably wasn't a good idea in the first place.

    However, if it was going to be a good idea it needed to be applied with real consistency. That hasn't happened. There have been numerous instances where cards have been marked PQ that had clear and obvious defects. In those instances, it appears the consignor have gotten a favor.

    Also, designating any PSA 10 with a PQ addition is just silly.

    Not really a fan of this concept myself, but it seems to be gaining some momentum....

    As someone who has also enjoyed collecting coins, this immediately brings CAC to mind. Personally, I could see PWCC stickers (or another brand/competitor) ultimately end up making an impact similar to what CAC has done in the coin market. Increased liquidity for cards that have it, and a completely different form of speculation when people are bidding/shopping for cards that don't yet have the sticker for the sole purpose of getting them "stickered" and then quick flipping for a profit.

    I hope this doesn't happen, but I fear it may be inevitable.

    Always looking for tougher PSA 10's of Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Mike Trout.

    PQ gimmick doesn't always net results. As an example, there were two 1971 Topps PSA 8 Thurman Munson cards that ended last night. One had the "PQ" and PWCC's description included such language in the listing "Just about the best looking '8' we can remember seeing of this highly elusive card. ...Never does this card surface with such fine qualities. ... As it stands, this one is a steal for the grade." That card sold for $1,905.00. Concurrently, they had another 8 that did not have as gushing a review in the listing description, and no PQ, yet it sold for $2,347.22. Sure, this is not always the case, but I'm willing to bet it is not the only time a non-PQ outsold a PQ too. There is a lot to be said for bidders getting caught up in the excitement of the bid process too.

    I happened to be the winner on the 71 Munson last night (non pq). I placed a bid for 14,000 by mistake instead of 1400. I over paid for the card, but I still am happy with the card. I messed up but I try not to retract bids. Now if it went to 12,000 I would have been a non paying bidder.

    Always a good thing to be happy with the card!

    Holy smokes, I just noticed that the final sales price of the PSA 7.5 and the PQ PSA 8 total together were less than the sales price of the other 8! :o

    An 8 sold in a probstein also for 1600ish last night also. Needless to say my 7 will be for sale soon.

    another example was the 62 Clemente psa 9 that closed night before last and didn’t have a PQ. The pictures told you all you needed to know about that card.

    As the consignor, I was pretty happy with that price

    That Reggie was a monster and my guess is several nuclear snipes collided on it, and someone had a big time number just in case and got pushed up with snipes. Beautiful card with pristine centering that is not common for that card, and winner has feedback in the 19k plus range so that means it was one of a few places who could bid on it. Even with the bump game if it gets an 8.5 they make some money - if not they made a lot of Reggie rookie holders very happy ;)
