Best finds in the early days of eBay

I was speaking with a coin dealer at a show a number of years ago and he told me that in the early days of eBay, he found many mint state $2.50 and $5.00 Indian gold coins in their original Christmas boxes / envelopes.

Looking back about 18-20 years now, what did you find on eBay that you just wouldn’t find today?

He who knows he has enough is rich.

A common date PCGS MS-64 St. Gaudens Double Eagle for $400.00 I remember buying one when I was just getting out of the Air Force in 2001. I wish I had kept it, but I didn't.

I also remember buying rolls of Mercury Dimes for $15.00 each on eBay as well.

15-20 years ago-all kinds of moderate to major doubled dies-too many to count.

I make (profit) a heck of a lot more money on ebay now than back then, just sayin.

Yes... I run a B&M. And still make a profit.
Profit requires that I buy below (about 20% back of Ebay sales records) to make one (a profit, that is) on eBay. And that's a 3% after costs.
And the auction action isn't that good as it used to be. And a BIN sits there for many moons, usually (when fairly priced), but ... YMMV.

I make a profit selling on ebay as well, but I have a shop, have had to consistently lower the buying prices and adjust accordingly to maintain profit margin. sometimes I loose on a piece or two, but use it as a tool to adjust the next time it comes in. sometimes I kill it
