Is this incorrect variety attribution covered under the PCGS Gaurantee?
Can anyone tell me if this is covered?
About 10 years ago I bought an 1873 Two Cent Piece that PCGS attributed as an Open-3 and recently discovered it's actually a less valuable Closed-3.
I was unaware that 4 years earlier Heritage sold it in an older holder labeled Open-3, but identified in their description as a Closed-3. One of the owners between the HA auction and me used the label to misrepresent the coin as the more expensive Open-3 variety, and that's how it was sold to me.
One of the owners also submitted the coin to PCGS where it was re-holdered with the same incorrect attribution. I don't know what service level was used, but I think an "obviously incorrect" attribution (aka "mechanical" error"), should be caught at any level.
Thank you in advance.
Here's the PCGS Cert Verification page that links to the 2004 HA auction.

that label looks different then what I am used to seeing. From what I know, 10 years is current policy so you will need to check for the exact date. Who did you purchase this from?

Where were you ten years ago?
Here's an image of mine at 30x magnification. Easy peasy - I see a Closed-3. The difference is something like 0.15 mm. Very easy to mistake without digital imaging through a microscope.
