Making better half dismes, and some self-promotion.

Director Samuel Moore was evidently proud of the improved half dimes for the last part of 1829. Plus, he promised more improvements after new dies ("hubs") could be made.
"Mint of the United States
Philadelphia
August 8, 1829
Hon. I D. Ingham
Dear Sir,
If our half dismes have not yet reached Washington through the Banks, I will send you if you please, 5 or 10 dollars worth, which you can replace by a Bank note. Would it be acceptable, or would it be liable to be misconstrued, if I should at the same time send a like specimen of them to the President or to any other members of the Cabinet? They are praised but are not perfect, though, like the Dismes of this year, superior to any coins heretofore issued; the higher edge given by milling with the blank margin round the head, are valuable improvement. New original dies are necessary in order to improve them as I wish, and, shall ultimately, I hope accomplish.
Yours truly,
Samuel Moore"

Thanks. Interesting info. As Frank Zappa said "if you want to get laid go to college, if you want an education go to the library". Or in your case the archives. Your posts are very informative.
Here is a transmittal letter for an 1829 half dime that Adam Eckfeldt presented to Robert M. Patterson.
Interesting, thanks for the info !!!
When did they go from disme to dime?
Smudge...you did it! First concert I took my wife to was FZ and the mothers of invention at Fillmore East. They were great and loud. Warm up band was a group of unknowns called Shanana. Bowser was the lead vocalist. Have a good day. Peace Roy

Now that is a numismatically historic document!
I was wondering that myself.
It was individual choice. Spelling was rather fluid and old letters show the same words spelt different ways and abbreviated differently. Here's the Eckfeldt document in a slightly easier to read version.

Coinosaurus - Where did the document come from?
I see, thanks.
Came out of the Robert M. Patterson estate group broken up a few years ago. There is a half dime that goes with it.
Are there any TPG opinions extent on that Half Dime?
