What's the story with the CIA counterfeits? The auction description links them to Bay of Pigs, but nothing else.
They were made by the CIA to give to the invasion force during the Bay of Pigs. Clearly some were kept by the soldiers and made it back to the U.S.
Was the point so the invasion force had some pocket money if the invasion went according to plan, or were they given suitcases of it so they could disrupt the economy?
Perhaps a little of both. I'm honestly not sure anyone knows for sure.
