1988 Topps Stickercards. Anyone familiar?
So, I am helping a friend go through his childhood collection to determine if there is any value and I came across these 1988 Topps Superstar Stickercards. He has a whole stack of them and I have never seen them before. The cards are a bit unusual as one side has a photo of a player with "SuperStar" label and the other side has either one or two stickers. Most of the stickers are yellow in color. I came across two that have silver stickers shown in the scan. The other odd part is that the front and backs never seem to have the same matching player. Anyone know how these cards were distributed or why some are so much more valuable than others. Are there rare combinations of players front and back? I linked one from Ebay that is surprisingly very expensive. Others are just a couple dollars. Anyone collect these?

These were distributed in boxes of 48 packs each, there was also an O-Pee-Chee version as well. You could also buy an album that Topps put out to place the stickers in. The main factor in their value is that they are sought out to fill player registries. The combinations aren't rare as there are only a few in which a certain player appears and the foil is one per pack if I recall.

The 1988 boxes also had gum in them, which I didnt realize when I bought many recently. Just about all the bkxes I bought had each pack silver foil card ruined by the gum. Forgot if the 88 OPC sticker boxes had gum. 1989 and 1990 Topps boxes do not have gum. If you can hit some of these in PSA 10, they can have some value for the player collectors, as Jason mentioned.
I'm always game for any Larkin stickers (#140 w/#285), only available on the back of George Brett #41 & Bruce Hurst #62 AFAIK. I know in 89 & 90 there are a fixed number of combos available, not sure about 88. None seemed any more rare than another.
ETA: I would be surprised if the example you linked sells for anything near to what they're asking, though it is a perfect storm of 2 HOFers and another popularly collected player on the same card.
