1969 Topps Basketball PSA cards stolen - what to do?
I recently discovered 74 of my 1969 Topps Basketball tall boy cards (51 graded PSA 8, 23 graded PSA 9) missing from my wall safe (along with other valuable items). I had been traveling for 2 months so these cards could have been stolen awhile back. That said, the cards are still showing up on my Set list. Given these cards are "registered" and graded to my PSA account, I'm curious whether I need to formally approve the transfer of a specific card. I'm just trying to determine the true "resale" value if the thief decides to sell them into the open market. I recall when I bought the majority of these cards 10-15 years ago, the individual who owned the card had to release the PSA # in the system so I could add it to my Set list. As such, if these cards do end up in the open market, I'd expect I would receive an e-mail from a buyer asking for me to release the card # so he/she can add the specific card to their set. Does that safeguard still apply? Thanks!

Yes, no one could add one of your cards to their registry without you being informed. Then again, many collectors don’t even use the registry.
Be sure to notify PSA about the theft. A buyer may add them to their set by sending a scan of the front and back of the card.

Hopefully you've notified your local authorities and filed pertinent reports so that if the theft is called into question there is a record of it.

You will be notified if anyone tries to add the cards to the registry, and while “releasing” the cards speeds up the process, it is not a requirement because of you are silent the cards will “transfer” to new owner after a period of time. I would definitely call PSA and tell them cards were stolen, and monitor the email account associated with your PSA account. If you haven’t done already, also download Cert numbers so you have them other than on PSA server.
Filing a police report is probably a good idea, though not knowing when they went missing will hamper how much they can help.
And I personally would set up eBay notifications to see if any of the cards were listed.
Good luck.
So someone broke into your house?? Just curious of the circumstances of it all?? As far as they broke in a door and knew you had cards in your safe. How did they get into the safe??
You're going to want the police report. Otherwise, it's your word against there's that a crime was even committed.
There's got to be damage done to your safe, right? I mean, there's not a lot of expert safecrackers roaming the countryside looting wall safes for $100 basketball cards. There's either damage or I imagine it's an inside job.

I’m sorry to hear that your cards were stolen. I’ve had my place broken into and been robbed before and it’s a terrible feeling.
Fingers crossed that you’re somehow able to recover your stuff.
Always looking for tougher PSA 10's of Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Mike Trout.
Was wondering the same thing.

I'm going to say it if nobody else will. Does something about this post sound fishy?
Yup reminds me of a similar odd post about a bunch of Derek Carr cards being stolen. Can't remember if that was on here or over on Blowout.
Tried to put up the gif for "well, we're waiting" from Caddyshack. Something is fishy. Either it didn't happen, or the whole situation is quite embarrassing and the OP doesn't want to reveal. "House was left unlocked, and the wall safe was exposed and left open. I was in a rush to get out of town."
OP created 3 posts about unopened packs in 2017. April, May and September. After asking for info, never responded to those posts. Posted this one on 8/19 and has not logged back in since. I am so confused by this tactic.
What's to gain by this post if it's phony?
Who gets robbed and does not report it? Was there something else there which was not supposed to be there?
Some people are just like that. Have you ever inquired about something that was posted on Craigslist, then a week or two later you get a reply? Some people are just lazy / inefficient.

If anyone knows how to get ahold of the OP, or if anyone knows of someone who has had '69 Topps PSA graded basketball cards stolen from them (specifically a Kareem), please contact me ASAP.

OP's another drama queen ?
If the op is from Compton, he should know what to do if someone broke into his house and safe.
Who travels for 2 months?
I'm not a drama queen nor am I a phony. I collected all these cards 30-35 years ago & was a Collectors member until 2006. Outside of unopened packs which I'm trying to round out, I simply have lost a little bit of interest in the hobby and after reading a few of the responses (thank you btw), I have not checked in since a couple days after my post. I was prompted by an e-mail to my personal address re: a Jabbar on E-Bay. I appreciate the responses and I will indeed file a police report. I will also notify PSA re: the cert numbers. And updated my e-mail address. I did look at E-bay history & did not find any of my cards sold -- although I just looked at my PSA 9's as I would think the person who stole them might want to optimize value and put up the 9's. Too many PSA 8's to count. Appreciate all of the responses & to the person who did inquire about the Alcindor (Kareem), unfortunately that was one of the cards I was still after so it was not in my Set. Thx!
Why are you posting under a different ID. JW??
I have no definitive proof but if anyone here is thinking of bidding on this I'd steer clear. I spoke with the seller who told me his Dad submitted the card to PSA and after moving overseas (why are they always moving overseas?) passed the card directly down to him. Problem is the card sold on eBay 9/8/2017 by a seller and to a buyer that isn't his eBay ID. He has (12) feedback and the listing is a 24 hour auction. Not exactly typical for a nice Kareem rookie in PSA 6.

I have a message out to them re: the 2017 sale so we'll see what they say, if they even respond, which I doubt they will.

I've done several work trips in the past that were 6-8 weeks.
The question goes unanswered...How does one break into a wall safe?
Where was it located? House? Shop?
Someone has balls if this legit that's for sure.
It could only be someone you know or have done business with that knows about it.

Yes filing a police report is a good start. You should get on that.

You're wasting your time and could get yourself into a serious legal situation if you can't be bothered to file a police report. A police report is a sworn statement from you detailing the theft and identifying the items stolen. It is very important to you that everything you say and provide in the police report is true and accurate. Based on the contents of your report you can then monitor the market for your specific items and take the appropriate legal action if a stolen item pops up in the future. Otherwise you could wind up getting yourself into more trouble than you realize.
