A POSTCARD FROM JAPAN MAILED FROM THE TOP OF Mount Fuji AND "THREE [VIDEO] VIEWS OF MOUNT FUJI

I just received in the mail a postcard that had been mailed from the top of Mount Fuji in Japan. Who knew that there is a post office on the top of Mount Fuji?

This inspired me to put together a YouTube Playlist of three brief videos that I have taken of Mount Fuji and to share the just receIVED postcard along with its backstory.

In the 1830's Japanese woodblock print artist Hokusai offered "36 Views of Mount Fuji" in his published collection by that name. The pinnacle of his collection was the view known as "Red Fuji" and it is recognized as the masterpiece of all woodblock prints.

In deference to Hokusai's effort, "Three Views of Mount Fuji" are offered in this Video Playlist beginning with a "Red Fuji" consequent from the early morning's sunset glow.

The Mid Day view which follows presents a cloud like Mount Fuji as seen at mid day.

The third view of Mount Fuji depicts a silhouetted Mount Fuji at sunset as seen looking across the ocean waters. Hokusai's most recognized woodblock print of Mount Fuji shares a view of Mount Fuji from the sea. In his offering a huge circular ocean wave is shown with Mount Fuji centered in the distance.

Alternative Link to the Video Playlist:

RELATED PHOTOS BEGINNING WITH THE JUST RECEIVED POSTCARD MAILED FROM THE TOP OF MOUNT FUJI:

(You can actually click on the postcard's QR Code as seen in the photo to get a link which provides the postcard's backstory.)

(Credit John Daub of the YouTube Channel "OnlyinJapanGo" for the above photos of the post office at the top of Mount Fuji, the postal worker there hand stamping the postcards, and the view looking down from the top of Mount Fuji near the mountain's post office.)

And here are still photos of the three views of Mount Fuji as offered in my above linked YouTube Video Playlist titled, "Three Views of Mount Fuji:"

And here is my own account of climbing Mount Fuji:

    My own Mount Fuji story.

With my youngest son I climbed up two-thirds of the way to the top where we camped for the night in order to see the Rising Sun in the early morning. We climbed the Yoshida Trail on the north side of Mount Fuji which departs from Yamanashi Prefecture and camped overnight at the 8th Station.

With that mission accomplished my more agile son went on to the summit and I returned to the base to await him.

As I neared the base a Japanese police officer came up to me and asked if I had a son, giving me a name. With trepidation I answered, “Yes,” assuming the worst that he had fallen in his descent.

The policeman went on to tell me that my son had mistakenly gone back down the mountain on the opposite side where one could descend, but not easily climb back up. He went on to inform me that my son was waiting for me in a different prefecture (equivalent to a state) at a police station there. Apparently he had taken the Fujinomiya Trail which goes down the south side of Mount Fuji to reach Shizuoka Prefecture.

I took the longest taxi ride of my life to circle the base of the mountain and join up with him. Once together, an officer going off duty gave us a ride to the nearest train station.

Photo of the two of us on Mount Fuji watching the Rising Sun early in the morning:

Pictured below is the face of the postcard with John Daub's drone taken photo showing the top of Mount Fuji and its various trails:

Possibly. It could be a bad restoration job by someone that can"t spell too.

    Semour the Moose's Backstory:

The Anchorage Convention and Visitor's Bureau now known simply as Visit Anchorage , is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year in 2025. Semour the Moose, so named through a naming competition if I recall correctly, became its mascot six years later in 1981.

Visit Anchorage offers destination marketing, focused primarily on tourism, for Anchorage and its surrounding communities extending as far south as Portage and as far north as Eklutna. Previous marketing slogans have been "Wild About Anchorage" and "Big Wild Life." It appears to be going with "Urban & Wild" presently.

Today was customer appreciation day at the local Mercedes dealer:

    The new Electric G Wagon (2025 G 580 w/ EQ Technology):
One of its unique features is being able to spin around in place, although we weren't able to stay for the promised demonstration.

Then inside the showroom where surprisingly there was a $360,000.00 Maybach Limo on the floor along with a Maybach SUV:

The Mercedes ML320 as it was introduced to the world in 1997's Jurassic Park movie:

The first ML320 in Alaska as acquired in 1997 as a 1998 model. Photo taken some 26 years later:

Note this Scale Model of the ML320 was identified as a 1997, the first year of its production - although the first production ML320s were designated as of Model Year 1998.

In 1997 "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" came out. The film introduced to the world Mercedes first luxury SUV, the ML320.

In the film ML320 prototypes were seen as provided by Mercedes. I acquired one of the first ML320 Production models in December of 1997, although it was titled as a 1998 model, the ML320's first official model year in the United States. It was the first ML320 to arrive and be sold in Alaska. Unlike M-Class Mercedes SUVs that followed, this first generation was of a body-on-frame design.

The ML320 is of automotive historical importance as it was the first luxury SUV specifically designed as a crossover setting the stage for the multitude of modern luxury SUVs that have followed. It also was at the forefront, being in the first decade, of foreign manufacturers assembling vehicles in US plants. The engine for the original ML320 was built in Germany and the vehicle was assembled at Mercedes' new plant in Alabama.

Of note, my ML320 required little maintenance and remained road worthy for over a quarter of a century.
