Take another look. The train isn't moving. :D

What if? I'm a proponent of getting certain wildlife populations under control. They would be deer, alligator and crocodile, python, especially in the Everglades and wild boars in the south and central south.
Just joking about the deer and the train.

Viewed from the Anchorage Alaska shore of Cook Inlet, the camera pans from close-by Mount Susitna to the distant volcanos of the Alaska Range. Mount Susitna is 30 miles distant and the volcanoes of the Alaska Range are 80 miles away from Anchorage. Mount Spurr is just over 11,000 feet high and its peak is the highest of those pictured in both the video and photo below.

Enhanced by a rare light bending mirage the volcanos, including Mount Spurr, appear taller than they really are with Mount Spurr looming the tallest.

The mirage magnified mountains appear taller than they actually are due to the Fata Morgana Effect which creates the optical illusion by bending light beams.

The scientific explanation of the Fata Morgana Effect as captured in this video is caused by temperature differences in the atmosphere. Light bends differently as it passes through air layers of different temperatures.

With a temperature inversion light beams track upwards and then curve down resulting in a mirage making the mountains appear higher than they actually are.

Link to Video of Camera Pan from Mount Susitna to the Alaska Range's Volcano Mount Spurr:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkjJBS2J_zI

    Mount Susitna

(Note the snow covered peak at the far right of Mount Susitna which is normally not visible from Anchorage except for the Fata Morgana Effect which has projected it up above the horizon line. This peak is a part of the Alaska Range that extends on to Mount Foraker and Mount McKinley f/k/a Denali.)

    Mount Spurr

Of course the most notable mountains of the Alaska Range are Mount McKinley f/k/a Denali and its sister mountain, Mount Foraker. Pictured below are views of these two mountains on varying dates this December with their height exaggerated by the Fata Morgana Effect as visible from Anchorage. Each photo was taken from the same vantage point (my office deck) but one can see that depending on the atmospheric conditions the heights vary.
