Below are photos of the coin toss at the last bowl game to be played in Allegiant Stadium where the next bowl game to be played there will be the Super Bowl. (The Las Vegas Bowl on December 23rd with Northwestern playing Utah. Note the purple and red clad showgirls, wearing the respective schools' colors, participating in the coin toss to add a local touch.)
An interesting point of trivia - if it were not for the Greeks "Athenian Owl Coin" which popularized having a head on the obverse and an animal with a tail on the reverse we may never have had "heads' and "tails" on our coinage to facilitate a coin toss. The world's first coin (minted in Ionia) simply had a turtle.
Not sure if that is a joke, but duct tape is actually used to keep single engine planes airborne in the wilds where I live. A plane like a Piper Cub is basically cloth stretched over a frame so duct tape comes in handy to patch rips and tears.
Today's rare atmospheric phenomenon - good luck and good fortune are said to follow from seeing a Sundog in the sky. The name comes from Greek mythology with a Sundog being Zeus's dog.
This from the Internet:
"Sundogs are relatively rare occurrences, and they can only be seen in certain conditions. They require a high sun angle, cold temperatures, and light cirrus clouds that contain millions of plate-shaped ice crystals."
"Some attribute the word sundog to the Greek, who purportedly believed that the bright lights were the dogs Zeus would walk across the sky. For the Greeks, seeing a sundog was considered to be a sign of good luck, and that sentiment appears to linger in current perception across several cultures."
So hope all enjoy your good luck ahead as you share this morning's sighting:
Note - the Sundog is on the left and the sun is on the far right in the above photo.
The images showed children exploring the areas around their homes in a manner that would be unacceptable to today's parents
I'm guessing they've never seen the movie "It" by Stephen King.
