The subject Onsen located in the Southern Alps of Japan is reachable from the Shinkansen stop at Karuizawa by connecting with the Onsen Hotel's private bus that requires an hour and fifty minute ride through winding mountain roads. Pictured, aboard the bus, views of the Southern Alps and rest stop enroute at Tsumagi, Agatsume-Gun, Gunma:

Apart from the bathing in the onsen pools, the subject onsen experience also included memorable meals, a tatami mat covered guest room\ with a spectacular view looking down to the surfer scented thermal pools, and even entertainment:
