This is sort of common on some old nickels I have noticed.
I am not sure if it is whizzed or caught in some machinery, but it is PMD, post mint damage. I have seen it several times usually on old nickels.

They feed on the coral bed as well as the sea vegetation.... tipping the balance off sometime.

I was part of a diving crew in charge of preserving the Kealakekua Bay .... eradicated many urchins including these sputniks
You should see how many fish came to feast for the delicate soft tissue (we got out of the water before bigger and bigger fish came) ;)

The beautiful Kealakekua Bay where Captain Cook landed and unfortunately killed.

Ecological cleanup puts things back into balance. Watchout for the sharks!

    Saw This,
not paying no mind. Fell out of my chair, cat ran off, the dog laughed, then I ran for cover and found my kids under the door jam dancing.

I took that photo a few years ago, when they sold them at Walmart for a few months. Now, I believe you can only buy them in Canada. :( My favorite Mars bars were the kind they had 30-40 years ago with two WHOLE almonds on top of the bar. :)

I never thought that growing old would happen so fast.
