    We used them on the farm for the simple fact you didn't need electric to have water. If it is in a remote area, that could be why it was installed. Both of ours required you to leave a bucket on the end of the spigot with water so you could prime it when needed.

    Yes, we also have an original pump at our farm house that needs to be primed.
    No priming for the one I posted.
