This is the strangest question you will see/hear today........
I have a very weird question, but I have a good reason for asking it. Is there anyway I can be notified when a MLB player passes away (specifically a former Cardinals player)?
The reason....
This morning I have been working on a spreadsheet for my autographed Topps Cardinals collection. I have listed every possible card from 1952 to present and I have highlighted the ones that I have signed. I also have been noting the year in which the player died. I have researched them all one by one on Google, Wikipedia, and Baseball Reference. I am finished up to 1980 and I am trying to finish it today. But I was sitting here thinking about once I get this done, how will I know if or when someone passes away unless I just happen to hear about it?
The bottom line is that when you collect autographs, knowing if and when a person passes is kind of important.

Baseball-reference.com has a listing on its front page of the players/managers who have died in a given year. You may already recognize a former Cardinal's name when you see it but the given player's/manager's former team(s) are listed on the far right side.

I belong to the Baseball Necrology (?) Yahoo! Group....I get reports of every professional player (MLB/MiLB, Executives, etc.) obituary as they become public....

Interesting. I will check both. Thanks.
