Scored a nice PSA 8 1973 Topps #1 Ruth, Aaron, Mays card

I started a thread earlier this month about a PSA 9 of this same card that I felt was a little too off center on the back to warrant a 9. The cool thing about this site is the knowledge of the board members. I was educated that if you get the front of this card decently centered, the back will likely be O/C.

PWCC auctioned that PSA and this PSA 8 on the same night. I think the front of this card is just as nice as the PSA 9 (with the centering being a hair better on the 9). I wanted it enough to bid a good bit higher than PSA 8s have gone for in the past but I’m really happy with it.

Interesting. I didn't know about this card's back centering until now. So if it were, say, 50/50 on the front, would the back be borderline miscut?

Great card. I cannot begin to tell you how many times I looked at the back of that card as a kid. One of m favorite cards from the 73 set.

Ugh, this is going to be one of those threads I keep coming back to to stare longingly at the card and kick myself for not being more disciplined in my search. So I'll get fired up and start going after it real hard again but that's like a once every 3 years card so I'll burnout and quit just in time for the next one to pop up and I'll miss that one too. Rad.

Overall a really nice pickup Daniel.

If the back is 90/10? I'm fine if the front is well centered.

Great card Daniel. I remember as a kid looking at the back and realizing Aaron never hit over 45 HR's. Take away his HR totals and he still had over 3000 hits. Just amazing.

Aaron hated to strikeout. With 2 strikes he just wanted to make contact. Imagine the amount of HR's he could've hit if he had changed his "launch angle" and swung for the fences with 2 strikes the way they do in today's game.
    Great card, by the way!

Is that a mark next to 1926 or the scan ?

Not a mark but an imperfection in the cardboard stock.

Very nice. The '73 Topps set drives me crazy in that I'd like and prefer that its backs be as nicely centered as the front -- and with but a few exceptions, I learned they simply don't come that way. Can't get it if it doesn't exist! :) Great card!

I think you looked over his 1971 season. Amazing that his highest hr total was in the twilight of his career.

Just think if he played in the steroid era everyone would be accusing him of juicing since he didn’t follow the normal aging curve!! Just shows how rediculous it is to accuse without knowledge.
