I've been lurking for a while, enjoying everyone's collections and decided to officially join.
I started collecting in 1972, using my "candy" money to buy packs. My '72 set is far from pristine,
but I'll never sell it haha. My '72-'73 hockey set is in much better shape and is also a childhood
relic. My mom used to take me to Woolworths, which is where is first saw '72 cellos (they were
cool then and still are). Also collected '73 and '74 back then, before playing baseball ended my hobby.

I re-started collecting in the late '80s, and like many of us, bought into the hype and wasted a lot of money
(I have multiple binders of useless Mark Grace, Mike Greenwell, Greg Jefferies, etc). Rotman Auctions was main
source before I gave up (due to Stadium Club, '90 Leaf Set, etc. and the obvious fact that the hobby had been ruined).

I'm getting back into collecting a bit, mostly unopened stuff from the late 70's-mid 80's, and have already made
purchases from 2 members.

Looking forward to joining some group breaks!!!

Jay

I took my first break from collecting in 1972, after a 1957 start. (IZ OLD). But it was pretty short

Welcome to the board! I was too young to for the Rotman auctions but grew up in Worcester and could never figure out where the advertised store was in relation to the massive furniture warehouse. Hadn't heard the name Rotman in ages.

I too started collecting in the early 70's and it was a great time. Glad you decided to get back into it. If done right it can be a pleasant distraction from everyday life and it may even bring you back to your childhood or at the very least bring back some great childhood memories.

Welcome to the boards and happy collecting.

The cards you still have from your youth, that sat in your own house, that was bought from the stores in your old neighborhood, are worth more then any PSA 10 out there.

First off, welcome aboard! We seem to be in a similar age group. I've learned a ton on this forum over the years. Secondly, I wholeheartedly agree with the above statement: The cards you still have from childhood are the best!

Nice to meet you Arthur! If you google "Rotmans furniture Worcester MA" then "Street view", positioning until you're viewing from the main road/front of the store. Behind the store there some old brick buildings (beyond the one with the Rotmans sign). The card store was around back, in a weird, almost hidden spot. They had some incredible stuff and a booming business!

    Hiya Jay

Glad to see your introduction buddy.

    Welcome!

I can sure share you disenchantment with the hobby during those times - I never left - just changed my focus away from cards - tho I've never totally abandoned them.

I used to buy from Rotman in the early 90s.

I got the 61F raw for 30 bucks, the 69T for a few bucks - still remember since it was my first or 2nd sub to PSA.

    Did good on the raw.

    Don't be a stranger.

Welcome to the boards. Would have to guess you were born in 1964-65 by your collection. Thanks for sharing and I did the same - started in 73-75 and stopped in 1981 and then restarted in 1989.
