Issue with the ANA's Summer Seminar scheduling

Is the ANA aware that having the Summer Seminar so early in June that is alienating 10% of the entire population of the USA since public schools don't even get dismissed until at least June 22?

I ask this because like most of you who've been to the seminar, it's an awesome experience. So why would the ANA make it impossible for the most-active numismatic area in the country to attend such a wonderful event?

Are they doing anything to prevent this from happening down the road? If not, they really need to.

Last day of public schools hereabouts is May 29th. Middle Flyover country.

I do have a vague impression that the Summer Seminar has been moved ahead just a bit in the last fifteen years.

The start of public schools has raced ahead about ten days in recent years too.

I went five times, but the last time was ten years ago - and they used to be scheduled later with the first session in very late June, and they would even overlap July 4th.

The NY/NJ area has close to 20M people in it. I live in NJ. My wife is a public school teacher, and we've had at three kids in public school at one time (now one).

I have attended seven or eight Summer Seminars, but the last was about fifteen years ago. It has been pushed up a bit in the calendar, and it is a whole lot more expensive now.

I was never at both two week sessions, but remember the Coin show in between very fondly. I have a couple of things from Hallenbeck's Coin Shop that I am glad to own. The Used bookstores in downtown Colo Springs are remembered very very fondly too. Those bookstores were great!

If it weren't for the past Summer Seminar experiences, I would have dropped ANA membership long ago.

It also depends on the grade level of the school, at least in this area.

Where I am in NY, Elementary was done yesterday, Middle today, and HS last week, but we start after Labor Day and had no extra due to snow days this year. my cousins in AZ are always done in May, but start in August. Some schools are going year round too though now. Guess it depends where you live and the state’s requirement over/under 180 instructional days or whether they even get a summer break anymore.

I suspect that the prime determinant for the Summer Seminar dates is the availability of the Colorado College facilities.

One district here has been out 2 weeks another still going until next week.

Summer seminar also has July 4th to contend with. Makes it hard to find a good 2 week window.

That is more than a fair point, and perhaps the college put the kibosh on them having the facilities used around July 4.
