I was at our local club show today and a dealer I know bought a collection of coins and one coin was from the John Q. Adams collection. I've never heard of that before. I thought it was kind of neat. He wasn't interested in selling the coin. Sorry for crappy image.

Yes, last month a speaker at our local coin club showed off a ancient from the John Q. Adams collection (not the subject of the talk however) . That example had a hand written tag but I believe it was mentioned that it was originally acquired through the Massachusetts Historical Society.
Here's a few in a old auction listing.

The "John Quincy Adams" collection (actually MHS consignment as jgenn pointed out) was sold by Stack's. The auction catalogs are available on the Newman Numismatic Portal:
Stack's March 5-6, 1971 - Part I: Ancient Coins
Stack's September 17-18, 1971 - Part II: Foreign Coins
