I believe Memory Lane did this some time ago. Looks like Saco River Auctions is using eBay as an online portal to bid on their upcoming live auction. So think of it as an isolated auction run on the eBay platform for a bidder's convenience.
this is so wrong on so many levels. First, over half the folks who bid on this will not notice the buyers fee, and that is by design. Second, the other half can't do the simple math of deducting 23% from their bid, and that is also by design. Lastly, this card just sold for $41; their estimate of $100-$200 is a little off. If you bid $5 over the miminum you are already in the hole.
I guess we should expect this out of these tech companies now. Between Facebook selling your data, Apple forcing upgrades on your phone, and E-bay resorting to "gotcha" auctions, can't wait for the new tech revolotuion. And we're trusting these companies with AI.
Collecting PSA 9's from 1970-1977. Raw 9's from 72-77. Raw 10's from '78-'83. Collecting Unopened from '72-'83; mostly BBCE certified boxes/cases/racks. Prefer to buy in bulk.
When you go to bid, the buyer's premium is stated very clearly. In addition, you have to sign up to bid, which includes agreeing to this:
Understand buyer's premium
If you win a live auction item, you're charged a buyer's premium, a fee paid to the seller.
For this event, the buyer's premium is up to 23% of winning bid amount.
We'll let you know the estimated buyer's premium each time you bid.
I've have dealt with Saco River Auction with mixed results. I enjoy bidding on local, live auctions from around the country, it makes "the hunt" more fun than just looking at ebay. I have not used the live auction process on ebay, but I'm sure it's similar to Proxibid.
I'm already signed into e-bay; now I have to sign in again; and pay a premium. Beyond ridiculous. Maybe they can eliminate snipes, have endless closings of auctions, and hide the bidders; then we can have our very own Auction House on e-bay.

I can say I've never seen that before on eBay.

Wow, the 23% info is buried deep! How can that not be stated with the price/latest bid??
